EU FUNDING INSTRUMENT

/ Horizon Europe – Research and Innovation Action

    • PURPOSE: To secure EU’s global competitiveness and address the big societal challenges of today. Horizon 2020 is a means to drive economic growth and create jobs through international, collaborative and excellent science and groundbreaking innovation. SME’s are wanted! Find the calls here.
    • AMOUNT: Between EUR 0-20 mill. 100% funding + 25% overhead.
    • DURATION: 2-5 years
    • CRITERIA: Min. three legal entities from Horizon 2020 Member States must be involved.
    • PROPOSAL LENGTH: Max. 45 pages.

/ Horizon Europe – Innovation Action

    • PURPOSE: To secure EU’s global competitiveness and address the big societal challenges of today. H2020 is a means to drive economic growth and create jobs through international, collaborative and groundbreaking innovation projects with a string commercialization focus. SME’s are wanted! Find the calls here.
    • AMOUNT: Between EUR 0-20 mill. 70-100% funding + 25% overhead.
    • DURATION: 2-5 years
    • CRITERIA: Min. three legal entities from Horizon Europe Member States must be involved.
    • PROPOSAL LENGTH: Max. 70 pages.

/ Horizon Europe – EIC Accelerator

    • PURPOSE: To provide financial support to high-risk, high-potential small and medium-sized enterprises to develop and bring to the market new innovative products, services and business models that could drive economic growth and have the potential to scale-up. Find the calls here.
    • AMOUNT: Usually around EUR 2,5 mill. The funding comes in the format of a grant or blended finance. The latter is optional.
    • DURATION: Usually 2 years.
    • CRITERIA: Enterprises may apply alone.
    • PROPOSAL LENGTH: Three stages of varying length.

/ EuroStars

    • PURPOSE: Development of new product, service or improvement of process in business in an innovative manner with a view to stimulating economic growth and job creation. See more here.
    • AMOUNT: Usually a budget for a Eurostars project is EUR 2M. Funding rate varies. Please contact us for more information.
    • DURATION: Up to 3 years.
    • CRITERIA: Min. two legal entities from Eurostars Member States. Min. one must be a SME.
    • PROPOSAL LENGTH: 60-80 pages.

DANISH FUNDING INSTRUMENTS

/ EUopSTART

    • PURPOSE: To facilitate Danish organisations participation in Horizon Europe and other European funding programmes. This pre-fund can help facilitate the proposal writing process including covering expenses for salary, travel and external consultants.  Please find the call text and further important information here.
    • AMOUNT:  75.000 DKK is awarded Danish coordinators and 50.000 DKK is awarded Danish partners before submitting the proposal, based on 50% co-financing.
    • DURATION: Minimum 30 days and maximum two years.
    • CRITERIA: Name a topic for which you will apply.  The main evaluation criteria is the match between proposal and the topic you wish to apply for. The last rounds of EUopSTART had a success rate of about 80%.
    • PROPOSAL LENGTH: 3-5 pages.

/ InnoBooster

    • PURPOSE: InnovationFund Denmark focuses on companies with innovative projects requesting expertise and know-how in order to succeed. The good project could be to develop a new product, a new service or even radically improving a process that increases the competitiveness of your company and accelerates growth. New knowledge can come from universities, other scientific institutions and corporate development companies – even hiring a new employee with special competencies is possible.     • AMOUNT: Up to 5M DKK in Innovation Fund investment based on a maximum of 33% co-financing. De minimis regulation apply depending on level of financing.
    • DURATION: Maximum two years
    • CRITERIA: Your company has to be a start-up or an SME. The proposal will be valued based on 1) Novelty, 2) Value creation and commercial potential, 3) Completion, and 4) Economic Efficiency.
    • PROPOSAL LENGTH: Approx 6 pages.

/ Grand Solutions

    • PURPOSE: To advance research, development, testing and validation of innovative solutions for the benefit of growth and employment in Denmark as well as to solve societal challenges. See more here.
    • AMOUNT: Defined in topic text (typically from 5-30M DKK). Innovation Fund Denmark provides 40-90% co-financing depending on type of activity and type of institution.
    • DURATION: Typically two to five years
    • CRITERIA: The proposal will be evaluated based on 1) Excellence – Quality of research and innovation, 2) Value creation, 3) Efficiency of project execution and 4) Implementation of results.
    • PROPOSAL LENGTH: Approx. 30 pages excluding appendices.
    • PROPOSAL TEMPLATE: Please get a sneak peek at the proposal template here. NB. Do not use this to make the proposal as different funders have different systems for applying.
